The idea of removing Fiberglass from Residential Insulation completely and replacing with a product that’s not only Fiber Free but also more energy efficient, reflects 96% radiant heat and is environmentally safe and meets the same smoke and flame index as Fiberglass wrap could be an easy upsell to most homeowners.  Who would object besides the Fiberglass manufacturers?

Ask any Residential HVAC contractor the worst part of a job and they will point to the Insulation.
Rolling out, cutting and wrapping 2″ and 3″ Fiberglass Duct Wrap to “wrap” around ductwork is the part of the install no one wants to do—small itchy and irritating glass fibers on the hands, clothes, and in the lungs.  The additional 5” of girth added because of the 2”or 3” thickness of Duct Wrap once wrapped appears to crowd the attic or basement area and right away what once was a clean looking metal duct network is now a messy patchwork of Foil Back Insulation giving the homeowner less usable volume in the attic or crawl space and the contractor less room to work with if , during a service call, he ever has to work in the space.  A better product for the Home Owner and a much faster and cleaner install for the Contractor is the Reflectix Bubble Wrap. When installed correctly (spacers on pipe creating a 3/4” air pocket) and taped correctly (with the Shurtape FF100 Acrylic 3 mil Film Tape made specifically for Bubble Wrap, adhering like no other), this alternative to Fiberglass Duct Wrap makes sense for the contractor and should be an easy upsell for most homeowners.

Easy to unroll and cut

Overlap a few inches

4.2 can be wrapped flush to metal but R6 and R8 require 3/4″ air space…

…which can be reached by cutting strips and overlapping to a 3/4″ height

R4.2 and R6 have a small bubble texture

R8 has big bubbles

You can achieve the 3/4″ spacing by crisscrossing too

R8 applied the same way as R6

Same options for spacers

R8 big bubble wrap

Can be creative in reaching the 3/4″ air spacers

R6 small bubble texture
