Duro Dyne Magnetic Cleater Tool for TDC/F

Duro Dyne Magnetic Yellow Cleat Tool for TDC/F 6” Cleats speeds up process of connecting duct sections on the job site while also ensuring that the fab shop’s workmanship isn’t compromised with a few hammering miscues by someone in the field

Duct often leaves shop immaculate condition—like this Full Wrap Duct. How it’s treated on the job site depends on the quality of the field crew.

On a typical job, the rectangular duct sections are made in the Fab Shop and shipped to the jobsite along with 6″ Cleats,  Butyl Gasketing and 3/8” Carriage Bolts/Nuts where it’s then connected and hung. This means that the duct may leave the shop in pristine condition only to get banged up or damaged in the process of the install. The most likely point of damage in this timeline is the connection of the sections from end to end and specifically the application of the 6” connection cleats on the 4 sides of the mating ends. Part of this is attributed to the profile of the Cleat that is used on the Rolled On (TDC/F) Duct Flange

vs the profile of the Cleat used on 4 Bolt Flange Connectors (Ductmate and Ward).

The cleats used on TDC/F duct (Duro Dyne’s Quad Cleat or Ductmate’s Versa Cleat) have a pyramidal tip when the connection is in place, unlike the Cleats used on 4 Bolt Flange which are a simple flat tip profile.

6″ Cleat used on Ductmate 35 Flange

This means that if the field is hammering the TDC/F Cleats on the same way they are used to hammering on the Ductmate 35 Cleat, they risk flattening the apex of the crown on the top of the cleat. This would spread the cleat open, defeating it’s purpose in the first place. Because jobs often have a combination of TDC/F Duct and Ductmate 35 , there’s a likelihood of knocking in the cleats the same method.

This is a cleater tool that isn’t limited to TDC and TDF Cleat. It also works well with Ward Flange 6” cleats

The Alternative is doing by hand or with a Cleater Tool.  Doing by hand requires effort and is cumbersome with gloves.  Cleater Tools have been around for years but not until Duro Dyne’s Magnetic Cleater Tool has there been one that addresses the things Contractors didn’t like about prior models.

Magnetic Cleat Tool also removes installed cleats

  • Bright Yellow Color is intentional: less likely to get lost
  • Additional Magnet on end of tool allows contractor place it against the duct vertically and it will remain there
  • Works with all brands of TDC/F Cleats
  • Built-in cleat remover easily pulls out any installed cleatsHolds the Cleat: because it has a Magnet in it’s holding cradle, the 6” Cleat doesn’t slip out as the installer reaches to Cleat the connection.
