Cutting taps into Double Wall Spiral Pipe

The outer wall of spiral duct can be cut with C160 double cut hand shears but it cannot drop down to cut the inner wall.

How are contractors cutting taps into Double Wall Spiral Pipe?

A.  Offset Snips
B.  Double Cut Hand shear on outer wall, Liner Knife on insulation, and Snips on Inner Perforated Wall
C.  Hand Held Plasma Machine
D.  Other

Stages and Components of Double Wall Spiral

1.  Contractor runs 5.394″ slit coil of 22 ga Perforated from inner wall.
2.  Wraps and tapes Unfaced Liner around Perforated Spiral Pipe
3.  Slides into Outer Wall of Spiral Duct
4.  Cuts Grille taps (holes) into the Spiral solid outer wall, insulation, and Perforated Inner Wall.

Conclusion

We’re interested in feedback from the contractor on a method described below.  We sell a Battery Powered Profile Nibbler that can go up and over the seams of Spiral Duct but also, because the head length is 2” deep and this tool can cut at a right angle. This allows the ability to drop down inside the hole below the outer wall and cut the inner wall.
