Vicon Corner Machine—Single Head

Vicon Corner Machine—Single Head

This shop has placed the Single Head Corner machine into a pit and is therefore able to use it efficiently on Straight Duct Sections

Why automate the corner insertion and crimping?

Shops invest in Single Head Corner Machines for Fittings. Unlike Straight Duct Sections where the upper and lower corners can be inserting at same time, each of the eight corners of a fitting is in a different position and thus require single insertion

Secures the Corner too…

Machine inserts and crimps the corner in securely, removing one last step for the duct shop. No more hammering or manually crimping with a Corner Crimp tool.

Corner is cleanly crimped in place—done on a single Head Corner machine or a Corner Crimp Tool
Hammering instead of crimping makes for a rough looking completed section

Years ago, Lockformer introduced a machine called a Corner Cadet that was marketed as an advanced method of installing the corners.  It came on wheels and was floor level with the intention that it would be used to install corners into straight duct (which accounts for 70% of where corners are used vs. 30% for fittings).  It was a finicky machine that got out of adjustment easily and required a special corner called a Cornermatic which was stacked so it would slide down one at a time directly into the machine.  The contractor had to bend over or get on his knees for fittings.

Fittings are usually sized to utilize a waist level work table and that’s why Single Head Corner Machines are waist level and not flush with the floor

Some shops, however built a table and lifted the machine up to waist level and started using it as a machine to insert corners into fittings and found it worked quite well—those shops used it for fittings and continued hammering in the corners for straight duct.

Vicon’s Single Head Corner Insertion Machine is designed to improve efficiency in making rectangular duct fittings such as this

Despite the fact this operator is very fast, the Single Head Corner Machine is ideal for automating the insertion of fittings like these…

First generation Corner Machine…

Lockformer Corner Cadet

This gave Lockformer and Vicon the idea of building a machine that was elevated to waist level and marketed to shops for corner install into duct fittings.

This is now…

Cornermatic

Single Head Corner Insertion Machine used with Ductmate Strap Pak—this is the same corner, but in a convenient sleeved packaging for quick loading times

Angled chute available for shops that want additional space flexibility to crimp larger fittings

Requires minimal operator effort: simply push the duct fitting flush into the guide stop and the corners are inserted automatically—flush with the duct and crimped cleanly

Tight throat = no problem.  This machine can insert into a fitting with a throat as short as 2″
