Slit Coil for Spiral Pipe

SMACNA approves 28 ga on 14” diameter Spiral and smaller but fabricators use 26ga instead

Here is the feedback we’ve received that makes that understandable:

1.  The min of the Spiral Helix TF3600, the runaway top seller of Spiral Pipe Tubeformers, is .016 thickness. That’s on the heavy side of 28 ga which means if the 5.394” Slit Coil comes in closer to .015 (which it most likely will) the pipe will not form properly in the machine.
2.  There’s a lot more 26 ga (.019) being used for 5.394” which has, in turn, made it more of a commodity.  It’s stocked at high levels at most steel service centers that cater to HVAC.
