Cold Rolled

Spec Sheet

Cold Roll Black is Hot Roll Carbon Steel that has undergone an additional “cold reduction” at the Mill. It is smooth, with a light oil to keep it from oxidation, rust and flaking that is prevalent in Hot Roll Black.

16 gauge is most common thickness used by Duct Fabrication shops, who buy it to make welded Grease Duct in restaurants, kitchens of hotels and office complexes, and concessions in arenas.

18 gauge follows in a distant 2nd because most all Black Iron applications in Ductwork involve welding—and 16 gauge is much easier to weld than 18 gauge. Anything lighter than 18 gauge is likely not involving welding as it’s very difficult.
