Thermostat Wire is a Class 2 stranded wire for use in thermostat control in New Construction jobs – mostly Residential and multifamily, along with some VRF commercial jobs. The first 2 digits represent the Gauge of the Wire and the 3rd digit is the number of conductors. 18-8 is a common wire used in Residential New Construction; 20-8 is common in Multifamily while 16-2 or 16-3 stranded wire is common in commercial VRF jobs.
