A Nibbler punches while it cuts; tiny metal pellets drop from the cut piece in the the wake of it’s path. The benefit however is a cut with no distortion on the cut edge(s). Of all Hand Shears, Nibblers are the easiest to use, make the tightest cuts, have the most power for size and the most versatility. The Versatility comes from the easy change out of cutting heads-a feature that actually turns the Nibbler into a tool with two sub categories- the N Series Round Head and PN series Square Head. Duct Fab shops often use it for “removing the mistake” when they don’t have the ability to do it otherwise because, for example, their 52” wide shear cannot cut 16 ga Stainless OR when they need to do a last minute change to a sheet coming off their Plasma Cutting Table.
And when it comes to Nibblers no one makes a better one than the German company Trumpf. Their Cordless 200 series, with a capacity of 14 ga mild steel and 16 ga Stainless, is the highest capacity battery operated Nibbler in the world. What’s more, with a quick changeout of the round punch to a Profile punch this Nibbler, with it’s 2” deep head, can accommodate the PN Tooling and instantly becomes a Profile Nibbler, giving it the ability to cut at a right angle and go up and over Spiral Pipe seams. The Round Punch of the N200 Nibbler means it cannot go up and over the spiral pipe seam like a Profile Nibbler; the downside of a Profile being that 3-1/2” is as tight of a circle as it can turn. The interchangeable Heads (not included) make this Hand Shear the most versatile available.

Trumpf’s TruTool N200 Cordless Nibbler weights in at 4.4 lbs. Corded versions are available for less but since the capacity remains the same as the Cordless models, the expectation is that Cordless Nibblers will easily outsell Corded. Plus, when it comes to power hand shears, we at Conklin believe that there’s an inherent safety risk when you have a cord with a blade moving along at the same time. Are Corded Hand Shears soon to be a thing of the past? That’s a topic for another time.
