Rectangular Duct Fabrication: Straight Duct and Fittings

Harry Thompson IVOctober 15th, 2018

What do contractors mean when they talk about Straight Duct and Fittings in Rectangular Duct Fabrication?

Straight Duct

One-piece sections of straight duct with Ductmate Flange on ends, corners inserted. When it arrives at the job site, the duct film on ends will be removed, and sections will be connected using Butyl Gasketing, 6" Cleats, and 3/8" Carriage Bolt/Nut.

One-piece or full wrap duct, TDF profile on ends, corners inserted.

L sections of TDF Duct, corners inserted.

Two-piece duct, also referred to as L Section or Knocked Down. This type can accommodate more duct per shipment but requires more labor on the job site. Female Buttonlock seam on left, male Buttonlock flange on right, snapped in on-site.

Fittings

In a Rectangular Duct System, fittings refer to everything other than the straight duct runs, like these various duct sections formed with Pittsburgh Lock, duct film on ends.

Offsets and Radius Fittings with Pitts Locks, duct film on ends.

Offset Fitting with a sharp turn, Duct Liner, and weld pins visible inside.

Large Radius Elbow with Radius Throat, both heel and throat seamed with Pittsburgh Lock.
