What is the difference between Hi-Temp Silicone “Red” and Firestop?

Regular Silicone has a service temperature of -40 to 400F (multi-colors) (Boss 315 is an example).

Hi-Temp Silicone has a service temperature of -40 to 500°F (red, such as Boss 376).

FireStop Silicone has a service temperature of -40 to 500°F (red, such as Boss 760). The primary difference between Hi-Temp Silicone and FireStop Silicone is that FireStop has undergone more testing and has additional specifications that allow it to be labeled as FireStop.

Where are they used application wise?

Hi-Temp Silicones are commonly used by contractors near furnaces, while industrial maintenance teams use them near motors as a precaution.

FireStop Silicone is designed for HVAC fire dampers in ventilation systems.

What is the difference between FireSTOP and FireBLOCK?

FireBlock and FireStop are often confused by contractors, and the industry doesn't always clarify the distinction.

FireBlock (Red in color) is used to slow or stop the migration of smoke from one area to another. It does not stop flames. (Boss 136 is an example.)

FireStop (also Red in color) is used either by itself or as part of a UL system to slow or stop the spread of flames.

Boss offers two levels of FireStop for different types of construction:

Boss 814 is mainly used in wood frame construction such as hotels, dorms, and apartments up to three stories.

Boss 816+ is used in wood, steel, and concrete construction, such as mid- and high-rise buildings, offering more UL systems.
