As an Alternative to Pogo Pump System

The area where a shop sprays Adhesive onto the Metal prior to applying Duct Liner is the messiest area in every Duct fab shops due to the nature of the wide Spray pattern from a Pogo style pump system, the operator adjustments to the nozzle and the tendency to overapply. Shops build a spray booth to contain the mess as best they can. Maintenance is often expensive and time consuming.

The removal of the pump from the equation in favor of Precharged Cylinders would remedy some of that effort of maintenance, and allow for more control in keeping the area less of a mess. It not only removes the Pogo Pump, fluid hose and air hose but also the drum itself and usually the buildup of used drums (which are not easy to dispose). The Precharged set up is also easier to use, doesn’t require an air hose and sprays in a 4” vertical line which means less overspray and less mess. Add to all this the very minimal cost of start up (all required is a $190.00 USD Spray Gun and a $100.00 USD 12 ft hose).

Comparison of Precharged Cylinders and 55 Gallon Drums…how many rolls can you spray before running empty?

Pogo style pumps can be very messy.
Dust-like particles are fine granules of the web-like adhesive accumulated over time on the Pogo pump.
For shops with the Pogo pump system, Conklin stocks the best quality Spray Gun model Duro Dyne 5120, which sells at $327.00 USD (updated March 2019), which is in line with other Pogo pump spray guns. This type of Gun is twice the price of a Spray Gun for Precharged cylinders of Adhesive because it requires an air line connection too, not just the fluid hose connection.

Maintenance Tip

Some shops keep the Spray Gun in Mineral Oil each night but this can be avoided by keeping the valve open. Keeping the knob that opens and closes the valve from the tank to the hose open will keep the glue in the hose and the air out. Closing the valve will cause the adhesive to harden in the hose and gun. The only time to close is when changing over to a new cylinder.
