Male Pitts: the often neglected other profile in the Pittsburgh Lock

Male Pitts: the often neglected other profile in the Pittsburgh Lock

The Pittsburgh Lock consists of two profiles: the Female and the Male.  Yet the Pittsburgh Machines run only one of those as standard:  the Female.  For decades the Male Pitts has been offered as an optional set for the outboard side of a 20 ga Standard Pitts but no one has ever bought mainly because the standard Pitts runs at a slow 25 ft per minute, so slow that it was faster to take the duct to the Hand Brake to turn the Right Angle Flange.  20 ga High Speed Pittsburgh Machines run at 100 ft per minute—on both roll sets. Rollforming the Right Angle Flange replaced the brake as the most efficient method and best quality male Pittsburgh.

About  50% of Flagler’s sales on their 20 ga High Speed Pitts have the Right Angle Flange ordered for the outboard side.  Sometimes the contractor is unaware that the Right Angle Flange are , in fact, Male Pittsburgh rolls (listed as 3/8″ RAF Rolls but adjustable down to 1/4″).
